Damp and condensation checklist
Work through common signs and causes before choosing products for damp, mould or excess humidity.
Damp and condensation checklist
Why checklist first?
Many damp problems are caused by everyday moisture meeting cold surfaces. A dehumidifier can help, but ventilation, heating patterns, leaks and furniture placement also matter. If you suspect penetrating damp, rising damp or plumbing leaks, investigate those causes directly.
What to do after the checklist
If most signs point to condensation, start by measuring humidity, improving ventilation during cooking and bathing, and reducing indoor drying where possible. If signs point to leaks or penetrating damp, look outside and around plumbing before buying more equipment.
A dehumidifier is most useful when the issue is excess moisture in the air. It is less useful when water is entering from a defect that needs repair.
